TSS440海底管道和电缆探测系统是一个套完整的设备，你可以安装到ROV上。440系统比它的前一代340展现出了更大的有势，特别是消除海水与金属目标的信号处理路径，在提高探测过程中，这样有利于提高获得信息的精确度。系统提供了一个方便的和不复杂的方法来对导电的目标实现精确的深海探测，特别是电缆或者管道。
440系统实时地运作，提供了一定速率下的精确测量，且可以被部署在速度较快的ROV上。系统使用的测量技术，使得当它不在水里运作时，也不会降低表现、范围或者精度。因此你可以将440系统用于陆上或两栖的探测。
TSS设计的440系统主要是用于深海的海底管道和电缆的探测工作。在应用过程中，系统会测量、显示和记录目标相对于ROV的位置，还有它的表面在海床中掩埋的深度。
系统使用的这种技术，可以很灵活地探测任何导电的目标，不管材料是暴露的还是被掩埋的。出于这种原因，许多不同领域的操作都可以从它的能力中受益。
TSS440系统由一个水面控制和显示电脑和水下部件设备组成：
Surface Display Computer（SDC）水面显示电脑
你应该使用SDC去设置和控制440系统。它通过ROV的脐带缆传输双向信号（bi-directional signal），与深海设备通讯。
从深海设备传输上来的信号，会被SDC转换为一个清晰的图像显示，以帮助你引导ROV沿着目标前进。
同时地（simultaneously），SDC使用5个串行数据端口中的1个，来传输实时的探测信息到一个外部的数据记录系统。
